Episode 172 - Licorice Pizza (with Michele Meek)
Welcome back to Not A Bomb podcast! This is the show where we examine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history and see if they deserve a second chance. On this episode, we are excited to welcome back Michele Meek to the show and discuss 2021’s comedy-drama - Licorice Pizza. Written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Licorice Pizza failed to recover its modest budget of $40 million but did manage to snag a few Academy Award nominations. This period piece has stellar performances, brilliant direction, and a few controversial storylines. As usual, Michele brings her unique perspective to the episode and asks some incredibly interesting questions about Anderson’s storytelling choices. Is Licorice Pizza a bomb? Is the core relationship between the leads too controversial for mainstream audiences? Does the film deserve a second look? Listen and find out!
Licorice Pizza is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and stars Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Bradley Cooper, and Benny Safdie.

NAB Presents: Breaking Brad - Experiment 8: Love on a Leash
Welcome back to Not A Bomb Presents: Breaking Brad. The premise is pretty simple. Troy, Sammy from GGTMC, and Jose from Watch/Skip+ pick some of the worst films imaginable to see if they can break Brad. In this episode, the we tackle…well, we’re not exactly sure what it is, but the film is called Love on a Leash. In this “romantic comedy,” Jana wears a lot of green, finds a dog that turns into a man at night, gets sexually assaulted by her store manager, tries to walk on water, sleeps in a heart-shaped bed, takes erotic dog-themed photos, and becomes an old woman by the end of the film. Not only did this film Break Brad, but the collateral damage is quite evident. Do not watch the movie, but certainly listen to the episode!
Be sure to subscribe to the Gentlemen’s Guide to Midnite Cinema to hear more of Sammy. Also, check out Jose’s podcast - Watch/Skip+ • A podcast on Anchor. Both are highly recommended.
