Episode 83 - The Suicide Squad (2021)
What’s up bombers, and welcome back to another great episode of Not A Bomb Podcast. This is the podcast where we reexamine films that bombed at the box office or were panned by critics. This month, the boys are taking a look at some of the biggest bombs of 2021. On this episode, Troy and Brad are joined by our resident comic book expert, John Nance, to tackle James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. This latest entry in the franchise comes five years after 2016’s absolute abysmal offering, Suicide Squad.
Where 2016’s film failed, The Suicide Squad really shines. The movie has an amazing cast, witty writing, funny jokes, violent action, and a land shark. The gang ponders why this film failed to make an impact at the box-office while all other superhero films in 2021 succeeded. Ultimately, Not A Bomb decides if 2021’s The Suicide Squad is truly a bomb!
The Suicide Squad is directed by James Gunn and stars Maggot Robbie, Idris Elba, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi.

Episode 82 - Raging Fire
Happy New Year, and welcome back to another face kicking episode of Not A Bomb. Using the “Donnie Yen” clause in the podcast bylaws, the boys are starting the new year talking about 2021’s Hong Kong police/action film - Raging Fire. This is Benny Chan’s final directorial film before his passing in 2020 and feels like a throwback to classic Hong Kong cinema of the 80’s and 90’s. Raging Fire is the story of a righteous cop who must cross paths with his former protégé. Both Troy and Brad think this is one of the best action films from last year, if not the last 5 years, and recommend you seek it out immediately.
To kick off the podcast, the guys talk about their holiday break and some of the films they watched. Additionally, Troy explains the reason why there are seven production companies on this film and the difficulties working within the Chinese government. Oh, and obviously, the boys guy-crush over Donnie Yen for a solid hour.
Raging Fire is directed by Benny Chan and stars Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse, and Qin Lan.

Episode 81 - MacGruber
Welcome back to Not A Bomb podcast! On this week’s episode, Troy and Brad finish the year with a review of 2010’s comedy/action/parody film - MacGruber. Born out of an SNL skit, MacGruber was a critical and financial bomb but has garnered a cult following since its release over ten years ago. The character was even given a second chance this year with a branch new television series.
Grab your dental floss, tennis ball, thimble, and stalk of celery for this unpredictable discussion. Troy and Brad debate which actor is best at dropping “F” bombs, the subtle art of deadpan comedy, the protected “art” of parody, and whether they should go back and watch the 80’s action classic Extreme Measures. The guys also give listeners a little preview of what’s coming in 2022!
MacGruber is directed by Jorma Taccone and stars Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Val Kilmer, Maya Rudolph, and Powers Boothe.
