Episode 48 - Southland Tales

Welcome back to the Not a Bomb Podcast! This week’s show is one for the ages. It’s a match up that would rival the greats! Forget Balboa Vs. Creed, Zoolander Vs. Hansel, or Maverick Vs. Iceman! We introduce Anderson Vs. Sauer. In this battle, the guys trade punches on the 2006/2007 science fiction/Melodrama/Satire film - Southland Tales. Yep, there is a clear disagreement on this episode! Directed by Richard Kelly, the mastermind behind 2001’s Donnie Darko, Southland Tales tells the tale of the end of the world…not with a whimper but with a bang.

Known as one of the most divisive films in recent history, Southland Tales was screened during the 2006 Cannes Film Festival where it was one of the worst reviewed films shown. Eventually, the finished product would be released to terrible reviews and one of the lowest box office performances of 2007. Now, the Not a Bomb Podcast examines why Southland Tales failed so catastrophically while trying to make sense of the plot, themes, influences, and performances. This one is a bit dense.

Southland Tales is directed by Richard Kelly and stars Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Stigmata), Mandy Moore, Justin Timberlake, Miranda Richardson, Wallace Shawn, and Bai Ling.

Episode 47 - Solo: A Stars War Story

In a podcast far, far away….NOT A BOMB: Episode 47 - The Podcast Strikes Back! Welcome back to Not A Bomb, the podcast where we examine movies that bombed at the box office or didn’t do well with the imperial film critics. On this week’s show, Troy and Brad are joined by Jenny Lou and Joshua Browning of The VHS Files. To celebrate our first four person podcast, the gang jumps to hyperspace and tackles 2018’s - Solo: A Star Wars Story. Known as the only bomb among the theatrical Star Wars films, Solo was marred in productions issues, director changes, and backlash from Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.

The gang talks about how they were introduced to the franchise and what it was like growing up in a Star Wars household. We also get to hear about Troy’s unique Luke Skywalker action figure as well as a deep discussion on toxic fans. Oh, and Troy still can’t get last names correct……or first names for that matter!

Solo: A Star Wars Story is directed by Ron Howard and stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandiwe Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.

If you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com. Also, if you like what you hear, leave a review on Apple Podcast. Also, please catch out our friends over at The VHS Files.

Episode 46 - The Dead Pool

Hey Bombers! Welcome back to Not a Bomb and episode 46 - The Dead Pool. The crew welcomes back Sammy from Gentlemen’s Guide to Midnight Cinema to discuss this over the top action film from the 80’s. The Dead Pool is the last film of the “Dirty Harry” series and, once again, finds Inspector Callahan prowling the streets of San Francisco to find a killer.

Since Dirty Harry is played by the iconic Clint Eastwood, the guys discuss some of their favorite films from the iconic actor/director. Plus, there is plenty of discussion about jogging in sweatpants, the impact of Dirty Harry on the film industry, cats from outer space, and remote control cars.

Stick around after the outro music for a little surprise…

The Dead Pool is directed by Buddy Van Horn and stars Clint Eastwood, Patricia Clarkson, Liam Neeson, and Evan Kim…oh and James Carrey.
