Episode 293 - On Deadly Ground

Welcome back to Not A Bomb! —the podcast where we resurrect cinema’s most infamous box office disasters and ask the burning question: was it really that bad? We’re celebrating five years of cinematic redemption.

For the month of January, Not A Bomb asks a very important cinematic question: what happens when actors decide that being in front of the camera just isn’t enough and take a shot at directing themselves?

This week, Brad and Troy dive into the wild, weird world of one of cinema’s most unique action heroes — Steven Seagal — and his 1994 directorial debut, On Deadly Ground. What happens when you blend Road House bar‑brawling energy, sprinkle in a little Dances with Wolves spiritualism, and top it off with the explosive absurdity of Commando? You get Seagal as a Native American eco‑warrior battling a cartoonishly evil oil company that’s tearing up the Alaskan wilderness.

And if that’s not enough, Michael Caine shows up with the greasiest hair of his career, there’s a bar scene that might belong in the Action Movie Hall of Fame, and Seagal delivers environmental monologues with the confidence that only Steven Seagal can deliver.

Is it poorly written? Without question. Is Seagal a terrible director? Oh, absolutely. But does that stop On Deadly Ground from being a fascinating, ridiculous, and thoroughly entertaining action‑adventure? Not a chance.

Strap in — this one’s a blizzard of bad decisions, big explosions, and pure ’90s action madness.

On Deadly Ground is directed by Steven Seagal and stars Steven Seagal, Michael Cine, Joan, John C. McGinley, R. Lee Ermey, Shari Shattuck, Billy Bob Thornton, Richard Hamilton, Sven-Ole Thorsen, and Mike Starr.

Want to help support the show? Head over to the Not A Bomb Tee Public store and check our merchandise. Special thanks to Ted Blair for the amazing designs!

Episode 213 - The Alamo

Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we dive into some of cinema's biggest box office failures and explore whether they deserve a second chance.

As we roll into the summer months, Not A Bomb has decided to dedicate July to the Summer Blockbuster season. That particular time of year when film budgets seemingly have no limit. To kick off our Summer Blockbuster extravaganza, Troy and Brad tackle 2004’s historical drama - The Alamo. All this is well and good, but here is what you need to know: the summer blockbuster season is May-August. That was the assignment, and Brad picked a film released in April, so we are already off to a great start! Outside of someone’s inability to understand time, we hope you enjoy the episode.

The Alamo is directed by John Lee Hancock and stars Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Patric, Patrick Wilson, Jordi Molla, and Emilio Echevarria

Not A Bomb just launched new designs in our Merch store! Head over to the Not A Bomb Tee Public store and check them out. Special thanks to Ted Blair for the amazing designs!

Episode 178 - One False Move

"Keep an eye out for the snoopers, pal, and don't forget to grab your smokes and that special gal of yours. There's a new episode of 'Not A Bomb' in town, and it's drenched in Noirvember's shadowy embrace. These fellas, they're diving deep into the darkness, dedicating the whole month to noir flicks. And what's their opening act? The year '92 brings us a crime thriller so dark, it'd make the devil himself shiver - 'One False Move.'

Now, 'One False Move,' when it hit the streets, had the critics singing its praises like a chorus of fallen angels. But the greenbacks, they didn't dance to its tune, and the flick vanished into the abyss, forgotten, some say thanks to that upstart Reservoir Dogs. But don't you worry, chum. These guys, they're laying down the gospel on 'One False Move,' telling you just why it's got the soul of a true neo-noir, a classic in every sense.

So, slip into the shadows, light up a smoke, and let 'Not A Bomb' take you on a ride through the heart of 'One False Move,' a film that's as classic as a dame in a red dress."

One False Move is directed by Carl Franklin and stars Bill Paxton, Cynda Williams, Billy Bob Thornton, Michael Beach, Earl Billings, and Jim Metzler.
